The Mirchi Yard is the largest chilli market in Asia and the reason Guntur is called the chilli city — prices set here move the trade well beyond Andhra Pradesh. It is also a place people travel to rather than live in: buyers and commission agents arrive from other districts and other states, spend a day at the yard, and need a car afterwards rather than before. Season matters more than the hour here, and during peak trading the roads around the yard are a different proposition entirely.
Pickup tip — During the season the approach roads fill with lorries and a car cannot always reach the gate. Say which gate or which agent's office and the driver picks a point he can actually get to.
