Hanamkonda is the commercial half of the tri-city and the older Kakatiya capital — the Thousand Pillar Temple stands at the foot of the hill here, built in the twelfth century before the capital moved to Warangal. It sits about seven kilometres from Warangal proper, and most people staying in the area are actually staying here rather than at the fort end, which is why so many outstation departures start from this side.

Pickup tip — Chowrastha is busy and stopping on it is awkward. Give the hotel or the lane and the driver comes there rather than to the junction.
