Nearly everyone books this as a return, because there is no practical way to pick up a ride back from Tirupati. We will quote a one-way if you ask, but the car drives back empty either way, so it lands close to the round-trip price — ask for both and compare. 385 km on NH-16, most of it open road. At roughly 2 days for the 385 km, the driver stays with you overnight — so the boot matters as much as the seats, and most groups of four still take an Ertiga to Tirupati rather than the Dzire. All of them come with a local, Telugu-speaking driver.

The temple is not in Tirupati town — it is up the hill, a ghat road climb of around twenty kilometres with separate roads for going up and coming down. The driver takes you to the top and waits there for as long as the darshan takes, which is the part a self-drive or a drop-only taxi cannot do. Tell us your darshan slot when you book and the start time is planned backwards from it.

Most darshan slots are early, so the common shape of this trip is leaving the night before and arriving at first light. It is a normal night for our drivers rather than a favour, and one all-inclusive fare covers the night halt — there is no separate charge for the hours the car is parked at Tirumala.

Sri Kalahasti, Kanipakam and Chandragiri are close enough to add to the same trip, and people often do rather than making a second journey. Say so when you book and we quote the whole loop as one fare instead of a drop and a set of local runs.

Most drivers break around Ongole, roughly halfway between Vijayawada and Tirupati. The road passes Nellore, Ongole, Chirala, Bapatla, so you can stop wherever suits — tell the driver and he will plan the halt around it.

Anywhere in Vijayawada — the car comes to your address. The points people ask for most are Vijayawada Railway Station, Gannavaram Airport, Benz Circle, Auto Nagar.
